taking a dip

Took a dip in the pool at my office for the very first time after work on Tuesday, since I started working there more than a year ago.

Did ten laps with some stopping, but that was definitely an improvement since the last time I went swimming.

To better stamina!!! :D

a leisurely friday

Colleague D and I both took leave on Friday (3 February), so that we could go celebrate her birthday by singing karaoke during off peak hours, cos it’s cheaper then! :P I haven’t gone for karaoke for A Very Long Time!

We went to K Box at Marina Square, and opted for the K Lunch package at $10+++ (karaoke from 11 am to 2 pm, and comes with a meal and a drink).

I chose coke and the meal which consisted of beehoon, fried crabsticks, sardines and veggies, because I love crabsticks, haha (foreground of photo). D took the honey lemon drink and the other meal, which comprised of rice, fish, chicken and veggies.

close of the year

Since 2011 is finally winding down to a close (in just a couple of hours really!) and we are right on the threshold of a new year, it’s a very good time to do a (hopefully) quick wrap up of the year.

back to the water

Last Saturday morning (10 September), the brother and I went to the pool in the SAFRA clubhouse near my place. Neither of us had gone swimming in a very long time.

My brother’s a member, so as his guest, I paid an entrance fee of $3.30 (it’d be $2.20 on weekdays). Seems a bit like daylight robbery, but the good thing was that there were barely 20 people in the pool.

I hadn’t been to a pool for more than a year, and had almost forgotten how cooling the water felt against skin.

However I was clearly out of practice as I did about ten laps with plenty of stopping in between!

About two hours later, we left. I had sore limbs for a couple of days and also a tan which still refuses to go away!!! :P

in one’s skin

I am not a prude.

Although I am not in the leagues of Samantha Jones and her ilk, I am not a prude. My friends would definitely agree wholeheartedly.

After all, I did once ask Ahgong if he’d ever compared penis sizes with those using the neighbouring cubicles in the toilet. He said no, then asked me if my friends and I compared breast sizes. I (honestly) said no. :P

technological advancement

I got a free new phone when I changed my plan (to, incidentally, a cheaper one!) on 17 August. It is a smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy Ace GT-S5830.

The user manual which came with my phone was paper thin (ie, barely any useful information), and I didn’t really have the time to figure out all the functions anyway. So I just used my phone to send smses, make calls, take photos and surf the net while on long boring train rides. Once in a while, I’d also use Google Maps to check my bearings while travelling somewhere. But that was about it.

Until late this morning, when I finally added one of my Gmail accounts to my phone, and was finally able to start downloading apps from Android Market. (I find their little robot inexplicably adorable!)

melting clocks

I don’t think anyone knows this, but my favourite artists are Claude Monet and Salvatore Dali.

While I was out for dinner with Ahgong and Kang Hao recently, I mentioned that I wanted to go for this Dali exhibition. They looked at me quizzically so I announced my favourite artists as an explanation. Ahgong looked pretty surprised, which I assume is because Dali and Monet were really 两个风格迥然不同的艺术家 (two artists with vastly different styles)!Which goes to show that I am really an eclectic person. :)

the triangle pose

Went for my second yoga class today.

Did a few poses I’ve never done before, including the triangle pose.

After class, most of my classmates rushed off, and I was the last student in the studio, so the instructor and I fell to talking.

Seeing me hold my black pumps, she asked, ‘Did you come from work?’

‘Yes,’ I replied.

‘Are you working or studying?’

‘Working, but I just graduated from university last year.’

‘You look like a student!’

yoga class

Restarted yoga lessons today (missed the first due to flu last week), but at a CC closer to home.

As usual, to greater flexibility! :D

plough away

During my fourth yoga lesson on Monday, the instructor taught us the plough pose. I’ve never done this pose before, and hence I had some difficulty in executing it, so she came and helped me push my legs into position. Having my head below my heels made my blood (brain?) pulse strangely; it was a very curious sensation indeed!

woof woof

Had my third yoga lesson today.

Finally got to do the downwards and upwards facing dog poses!

yoga class

Just came back from the first lesson of my new yoga class tonight. It’s held at a CC in Eunos, and Karen is also attending.

fifteenth

Boss and I made an appointment with another potential stockist, but it was moved back, so was an hour late for swimming class.

Had worn my alldressedup black acrylic bangle today.

Was exchanging my matric card for a locker key at the entrance when the guy asked me, ‘Is that a watch?’

‘No it’s a bangle!’

Started at the deep pool.

Did only three laps and had to stop to rest occasionally.

Coach saw me stop during my second lap and asked me why.

Told him I was tired because I had run all over just now.

Think he thought I had gone running.

So we did treading water.

First attempt: one minute.

Second attempt: two minutes!

Then off to the baby pool.

My survival backstroke is ‘much better’ now! :D

Found a Casio analogue watch with a small face and thin black straps in one of the changing stalls.

Handed it to the guys at the entrance.

One of them exclaimed, ‘Wah you so honest!’ and then, ‘Since you are so honest, you can take this back!’ :P

After swimming went to Clementi for dinner.

Had chicken cutlet with no fries and extra coleslaw.

When the auntie brought me the food, she must’ve spotted my bangle because she went, ‘你戴这个什么来的?’

‘是镯子!’

‘镯子?很 cute hor?’

fourteenth

Went to school for swimming this evening!

Haven’t touched a pool in weeks.

Warmed up in the baby pool first.

Practised floating on my back with a float first.

Then one hand holding the float, and the other, sculling.

Then I somehow I could do so without the float, and both hands sculling.

Coupled with the appropriate leg movements, I managed to do a slightly wobbly survival backstroke.

Then off to the deep pool.

Four laps, a bit of treading and practising my turns at the end of the pool.

Supposed to be my very last lesson today but my coach said I could come for a few more! :D

twelfth

Deep pool again.

First did three laps (I define one lap as one length) with a float.

Then coach taught me how to make a turn gracefully when I reached the end – how to pull in and then kick off again nicely.

Rested a bit, then off I went!

Swim, swim, swim!

It was a long and hard slog before I finished the 10th lap.

But after half the battle was won, everything became easier.

When I finished the 18th length, the coach went, ‘This is a very good achievement!’

Then off I went and back again!

Did twenty laps in about an hour!!!

Alas I didn’t really get to do my graceful turns as the end as there was always a bunch of people crowded at the ends of my lane.

Walked to the bus stop opposite YIH to take 96.

Was looking at the map of the school when I noticed a sudden movement from the corner of my eye.

It was a little lizard munching away happily.
