shoulder stand

Just finished another course of yoga yesterday (eight sessions in all). When we started on 24 February, I could do shoulder stands only with the assistance of a wall. Then I could enter that pose with a backwards tumble. By the last few lessons,  I could execute that move solely with the power of my abdominals. :D

Happy Chinese New Year from me and my flower arrangements!!! :D

Made them for my home…… aren’t they sweet? Simply love the colour scheme! :D

Arrangements: (from left) mini kumquats, red cockscomb and pink carnations;  purple hydrangea; and pink roses, purple eustomas and some greenery and berries……

Flowers: Tiong Bahru Market and Candy Floriculture (with a couple of items salvaged from what I made during my flower arrangement class  by Wonderland for Detailed Planners last Sunday, 26 January)……

Vases: Sia Huat (left and middle; they’re actually large drinkware) and Ikea (right)……

Special thanks to colleagues G and L, and friend M, for braving the madding crowds with me to purchase the flowers on Wednesday and yesterday respectively!!!

rounding up the year

A quick roundup of what I did in 2013 before it turns 2014……!!!

Work
Celebrated my third anniversary at work. Was a victim of crime during R&R time on a work trip to Vietnam. (Bag slashed and wallet stolen in a crowded bazaar in Hanoi – kinda traumatizing but thank goodness for travel insurance. Will be more careful in future – NEVER AGAIN!) Encountered new challenges at work, and did my best to meet them, with some success and some improvements to be made. Learnt to be a teeny weeny bit more patient.

downward-facing dog

Had my last yoga class on Monday. I find this instructor pretty good, so I signed up for her new class, which will be starting next Monday. It’s once again a beginner’s course, but I think it’d be good for me to reinforce my fundamentals before thinking about moving to intermediate level.

Incidentally, why is that particular yoga pose called downward-facing dog? Why not cats? Cows? Or even monkeys?

yoga class

Restarted yoga classes this evening, after a hiatus of more than a year, at a community club near my home. The class is younger, but slightly more international: there’s an angmoh auntie and a Filipino woman. There is only one guy, but alas, he is not hot. Haha.

To greater flexibility and inner peace!

floral arrangement class

Will be having my first Western floral arrangement class after work today, at the community club near my office! Signed up for this course a month ago and have been counting down to today! Have never ever done floral arrangement before, hence my excitement!!!  :D

close of the year

Going to do a quick round up of the year, since brevity is the soul of wit……

taking a dip

Took a dip in the pool at my office for the very first time after work on Tuesday, since I started working there more than a year ago.

Did ten laps with some stopping, but that was definitely an improvement since the last time I went swimming.

To better stamina!!! :D

a leisurely friday

Colleague D and I both took leave on Friday (3 February), so that we could go celebrate her birthday by singing karaoke during off peak hours, cos it’s cheaper then! :P I haven’t gone for karaoke for A Very Long Time!

We went to K Box at Marina Square, and opted for the K Lunch package at $10+++ (karaoke from 11 am to 2 pm, and comes with a meal and a drink).

I chose coke and the meal which consisted of beehoon, fried crabsticks, sardines and veggies, because I love crabsticks, haha (foreground of photo). D took the honey lemon drink and the other meal, which comprised of rice, fish, chicken and veggies.

close of the year

Since 2011 is finally winding down to a close (in just a couple of hours really!) and we are right on the threshold of a new year, it’s a very good time to do a (hopefully) quick wrap up of the year.

back to the water

Last Saturday morning (10 September), the brother and I went to the pool in the SAFRA clubhouse near my place. Neither of us had gone swimming in a very long time.

My brother’s a member, so as his guest, I paid an entrance fee of $3.30 (it’d be $2.20 on weekdays). Seems a bit like daylight robbery, but the good thing was that there were barely 20 people in the pool.

I hadn’t been to a pool for more than a year, and had almost forgotten how cooling the water felt against skin.

However I was clearly out of practice as I did about ten laps with plenty of stopping in between!

About two hours later, we left. I had sore limbs for a couple of days and also a tan which still refuses to go away!!! :P

in one’s skin

I am not a prude.

Although I am not in the leagues of Samantha Jones and her ilk, I am not a prude. My friends would definitely agree wholeheartedly.

After all, I did once ask Ahgong if he’d ever compared penis sizes with those using the neighbouring cubicles in the toilet. He said no, then asked me if my friends and I compared breast sizes. I (honestly) said no. :P

technological advancement

I got a free new phone when I changed my plan (to, incidentally, a cheaper one!) on 17 August. It is a smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy Ace GT-S5830.

The user manual which came with my phone was paper thin (ie, barely any useful information), and I didn’t really have the time to figure out all the functions anyway. So I just used my phone to send smses, make calls, take photos and surf the net while on long boring train rides. Once in a while, I’d also use Google Maps to check my bearings while travelling somewhere. But that was about it.

Until late this morning, when I finally added one of my Gmail accounts to my phone, and was finally able to start downloading apps from Android Market. (I find their little robot inexplicably adorable!)

melting clocks

I don’t think anyone knows this, but my favourite artists are Claude Monet and Salvatore Dali.

While I was out for dinner with Ahgong and Kang Hao recently, I mentioned that I wanted to go for this Dali exhibition. They looked at me quizzically so I announced my favourite artists as an explanation. Ahgong looked pretty surprised, which I assume is because Dali and Monet were really 两个风格迥然不同的艺术家 (two artists with vastly different styles)!Which goes to show that I am really an eclectic person. :)

the triangle pose

Went for my second yoga class today.

Did a few poses I’ve never done before, including the triangle pose.

After class, most of my classmates rushed off, and I was the last student in the studio, so the instructor and I fell to talking.

Seeing me hold my black pumps, she asked, ‘Did you come from work?’

‘Yes,’ I replied.

‘Are you working or studying?’

‘Working, but I just graduated from university last year.’

‘You look like a student!’
