Archive for April, 2011

A short snippet of an MSN conversation with Ahgong last night, on modifying behaviour to chase girls:

~ * j u n * ~ [ the princess of peach blossom island ] says:
not telling u to be inauthentic
but more 邪

Avalon 一口玉弓思归送 says:

Very amusing!

Reminds me of another chat we had on MSN eons ago. Ahgong had told me not to ‘庸人自扰’, and of course I immediately retorted, ‘我又不是庸人!’

social register

This morning I picked up a call.

A male voice from the other end said, ‘Denise ah?’

For a moment I was completely taken by surprise – which of my friends was calling me at work?

So I answered, ‘Sorry may I know who is speaking please?’

Turned out that it was a doctor who had recently sent in a booking form to place a classified ad. :P

A couple of hours ago I called the Singapore Nurses Association.

The person who picked up the phone said her name was Florence.

I loled inwardly.

Congratulations to finally-officially-Dr Tan and all my other friends who passed their final medical exams and are now fully fledged doctors!

Short sms exchange between Dr Tan and I on Monday morning:

Dr Tan: thank you dear for ur encouragement, I’ve passed! :)
Me: Congrats. Now you can go for grad trip and write mcs for me yay

And it was House Officers Seminar today somewhere in NUS, but no, I did not volunteer to go down to help. :P

good friday

A very busy week.

And thankfully, a short one too……!

annual general meeting

Attended the 52rd SMA Annual General Meeting yesterday cos I had been tasked with reporting on the AGM for our magazine. It’s the first AGM I’ve ever attended in my life.

Sometime last week Boss informed me that Dr J A Tambyah had passed away. He had been suffering from end stage cancer. I couldn’t help but feel a frisson of sadness, although I never knew him.

He was an endocrinologist, one of the pioneers of local medicine and had had taught generations of medical students. We had arranged to interview him for the March issue this year, but the interview fell through because he was in great pain. 真的好可惜啊!

And now that he is gone, our editor Dr THC has gotten Dr Tambyah’s son to work with a friend of his father’s on an obituary for our April issue.

a daughter of a better age

More than three weeks ago on 23 March, I was working on the final fullbook for the Mar issue with the help of my graphic designer CX (who is from China) via MSN. In the midst of our busyness, we chatted about random stuff.

So I was saying that I believe in 活到老学到老, when suddenly CX 冒出了一句:

xun says:
Raffles girl?

~ * j u n * ~ [ the princess of peach blossom island ] says:
how you know

xun says:

~ * j u n * ~ [ the princess of peach blossom island ] says:

xun says:

Clearly, you can take the girl out of Raffles, but you can never take Raffles out of the girl!

clearing the queue

And we’ve just gotten our 100th friend. Yay! :)

an avalanche of requests

I launched my company’s presence on Facebook on Tuesday. Since I had bet with my big boss M that I could friend 200 doctors in a week, I immediately started adding doctors we knew. However, since I had to search for and add them manually, it was a long slow process.

the triangle pose

Went for my second yoga class today.

Did a few poses I’ve never done before, including the triangle pose.

After class, most of my classmates rushed off, and I was the last student in the studio, so the instructor and I fell to talking.

Seeing me hold my black pumps, she asked, ‘Did you come from work?’

‘Yes,’ I replied.

‘Are you working or studying?’

‘Working, but I just graduated from university last year.’

‘You look like a student!’

mixing metals

The usual fashion rule is not to mix gold and silver; yesterday when I took leave and went out,  I wore a grey puff-sleeved top, black shorts, low black pumps, carried a black handbag and accessorized thus:

Watch: Citizen, from random watches and spectacles shop near my place
Amethyst ring: Goldheart (This was a gift from parents for my 21st!)
Sunburst ring: stall in bazaar at SGH

Above photo taken by Ahgong. And his comments?

很match…… does not conflict…… there’s no disharmony.

all in a day’s work

Spent most of the morning doing up our official presence on Facebook. At first I found the process of getting it off the ground very sian, but today I finally got to add friends, which was super fun!!! Kept making Boss and also colleague MS suggest possible friends for me.

Then I posted this status on my own profile:

adding friends to my company’s facebook is more fun than adding friends to my own! -_-”’

Which then elicited two comments:

Dr B W: really!

Dr L: Don’t get carried away ..

200 friends by next Tuesday! I CAN DO IT!!!
