那人却在 灯火阑珊处

On Monday night, we just returned from a zhi char dinner at a nearby coffeeshop when we saw children playing with fire lanterns, candles and sparklers in the park.

At this, my mum declared excitedly, ‘Let’s play with lanterns too!’ So we popped upstairs where she actually managed to dig out two paper lanterns, which are probably more than a decade old, as I haven’t played with lanterns since I was 12.

My sister wanted the big one, so I took the long thin one. After some fuss, we managed to light the lanterns successfully, and went around the park a few times.

There were actually pretty few children playing with lanterns this year! I recall seeing many more children in previous years. Maybe all busy studying for exams this time round? :(

Anyway, as we were watching the children run around screaming, my mum suddenly said to us, ‘Faster go get married have kids and then you can 提灯笼  with your kids!’

>.<

So when I was chatting on MSN with Ahgong later that night, I told him about what my mum said, and he replied, ‘HAHA / nice / I should post this’……!!!

NB Title is a line from Xin Qiji’s 《青玉案·元夕》. As I said, everyone quotes it whenever Mid-Autumn Festival rolls around!

You have a cool mum! Anyone that’s young-at-heart and still know fun must be cool!

I remember we used to buy and prefer those lanterns with transparent coloured plastic films. Got airplanes, ships, ultraman, godzilla, LOL! Then when one becomes engulf in flames, we all cheer! Except the poor kid what burnt his lantern of ource. Ah! Good times!
