I normally have my 团圆饭 with my immediate family (ie, parents and siblings) only, and this year was no different.
What we had yesterday evening, courtesy of the mother, with a little help from the sister……
A modified version of 盆菜 (which usually has less broth than this),
a modified version of claypot rice (rice with bits of Chinese sausage),
and pork patties.
The 盆菜 was full of goodies: abalone, scallops, prawns, quail eggs, two types of mushrooms, chicken and cabbage…… Although a tad undersalted, the food and the broth were delicious and rich in umami, but somehow something was missing. It was as if the ingredients just missed coming together in a harmony.
The mother makes patties occasionally and the ones she made yesterday were tasty as usual. She had actually made more than six but I gobbled up two or three even before dinner started.
And the claypot rice was the best dish of the evening. Savoury and enjoyable!
